Learning Objectives

A study has revealed that the spike proteins are not only necessary for the SARS-COV-2 to bind to the ACE2 enzyme, but these proteins are also a key factor in causing vascular endothelial damage. Let's review the study and the results.

We will discuss:

  1. Study design.
  2. Role of the spike proteins other than helping SARS-COV-2 to enter a cell.
  3. Spike protein attachment to ACE2 to crate an inflammatory imbalance.
  4. Spike protein attachment to ACE2 to disrupt nitric oxide production.
  5. Local vasoconstriction due to spike proteins and its results.
