Learning Objectives

* Identify cell types in the brain and spinal cord, including functional neurons and parenchymal cells.

* Describe the functions of microglia, macroglia (astrocytes and oligodendrocytes), ependymal cells, and tanycytes.

* Understand the myelination process by Schwann cells in the PNS and oligodendrocytes in the CNS.

* Differentiate between neuron types: apolar, pseudounipolar, bipolar, and multipolar.

* Recognize the role of astrocytes in astrogliosis and scar formation in injured brain tissue.

* Explain anterograde and retrograde movement within neurons, distinguishing between fast and slow anterograde movements
