Toxic shock syndrome is a rare but deadly disease most common in young women using super-absorbent tampons. Staphylococcal toxin TSST-1 is responsible for this syndrome. Majority of the patient that fall ill with toxic shock syndrome also lack an adequate humoral response to the toxic shock syndrome toxin.
