ARDS results from lung injury resulting in significant hypoxemia and respiratory distress. This translates into significant morbidity and mortality for patients and is managed primarily in the Intensive Care Unit. This lecture is divided into two modules covering the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and timeline, as well as the clinical presentation and definition of ARDS.

Dr. Ana Maria Crawford practices both Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. In addition to her clinical practice, she has spent the majority of her career in academic settings teaching and lecturing trainees, nurses, respiratory therapists, anesthesia technicians, colleagues, and medical students from varied backgrounds. She has won several teaching and leadership awards and has been invited as a guest lecturer at several medical conferences. Dr. Crawford also works in Global Health to develop and improve teaching programs in lower resourced countries across the globe. She has a strong interest in building equity to access in learning in order to improve the safety and efficacy of health care. Dr. Crawford loves to teach and is thrilled to contribute to he Dr.Been team.
