In this webinar, we will start with the Glasgow Coma Scale, and start the discussion of the involuntary reflexes and their interpretation. At the end of the series, we will discuss the management approach and arriving at a prognosis based on our findings from the neurological examination.
Objectives
As you know, most patients in a coma cannot express their symptoms. They can’t talk to you. They are at your mercy to understand their state and manage appropriately. A clinician must master the involuntary language that a patient in a coma will speak. She will convey her state through the involuntary reflexes. Learn, learn, learn to understand this language. Your understanding and approach can become a significant part of the patient’s prognosis. Let’s study together. Let’s understand the reflexes in a comatose patient, and learn to interpret these reflexes so that we can diagnose and manage this patient with excellence. Join me for this series. Neurological examination of a patient in coma is critical for an examiner to understand the etiology and extent of the coma. A thorough understanding of various involuntary reflexive responses helps with management approach and prognosis.
