Dr. Wimalawansa Bio:

Dr. Wimalawansa, MD, PhD, MBA, DSc, is a physician-scientist, researcher, educator, author, innovator, philanthropist, board member, leader, and process consultant. His clinical expertise includes endocrinology, human nutrition, vitamin D, disease prevention, metabolic diseases, osteoporosis, CKD, health policies, and social sciences. He is a former University Professor, Professor of Medicine, Chief of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Nutrition, and Physiology/Pharmacology at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

 

Dr. Wimalawansa's inventions include vasodilatory CGRP for cardiovascular diseases, once-a-week bisphosphonate, combination therapies, and nitric oxide regimens for osteoporosis. In 1984, he developed the intra-operative measurement of hormones during surgical procedures, now a worldwide standard of care. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award (2004) from the USA Foundation for contributions to science and humanity, the Oscar Gluck International Humanitarian Award (2008), and the Eugene T. Davidson, MD, Public Service Award from AACE in 2024.

As a process consultant and Lean Six Sigma executive, he serves on the boards of national and international organizations. He is a member of scientific review committees such as NIH, VA, DEA, and NASA. He has delivered more than 500 invited presentations globally and has made significant contributions to academia and research with over 300 peer-reviewed articles, numerous books, and book chapters. Dr. Wimalawansa has taught at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels.
