Understanding inflammation is paramount for healthcare students, clinicians/healthcare professionals, and research workers. Most books start the discussion of inflammation by describing the events at the site of injury or infection. This series of medical concepts needs the learner to put the bigger picture together by themselves. We want to take a different approach. We would like to start from the actual final pathways that work to create inflammation. Once we understand these pathways, then the cellular, biochemical, and stress/injury signals can be learned. The intent is that this approach will lead you to have the actual mechanics in your mind while you study the participants of the inflammatory process.

Today we will learn:
What is inflammation?
Why is inflammation needed?
What are the phases of inflammation?
What are the types of inflammation?
The key inflammatory pathways.
