According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 422 million individuals live with diabetes mellitus. Unfortunately, diabetes prevalence (occurrence) is increasing rapidly instead of decreasing. By 2030 the numbers are expected to double. Imagine about one billion people living with diabetes. Realize that the complications of the diabetes are debilitating and disabling. Hypertension, heart failure, chronic kidney failure, diabetic neuropathies, diabetes related vision issues, immunosuppression, and the list goes on and on.
A critical point to realize as a health care provider and a patient is that if diabetes is managed then one can lead almost a normal life. Isn't this a big deal? It is. In this series, with a lot of passion I (Dr. Mobeen) go over the mechanics of diabetes mellitus and approaches to its management. My mantra has always been that the health care providers must master diabetes and hypertension.
I am humbled and grateful that you will be watching this series to allow me to be a partner for better patient care. Let's do it together!
